Open-top Pouch #2

Open top pouch made from tin-clothed hemp (interior lined with linen) and pigskin. Cowhide strap adjusts with antique bone buttons and is tied to the bag with hemp rope as is the powder horn made by Pete Hutton.  A copper vent pick and cane measure are attached to the bag.  There is a small hanging pocket stitched into the pigskin along the inside top.

Hemp bag

This pouch is made from cowhide and tin-clothed hemp fabric.  The strap adjusts with a pair of antique bone buttons.  The powder horn shown in several of the photos was made by Tim Crosby and has a pine base plug.  It is hung with hemp rope.

 

Heart shaped ticking pouch

This heart shaped pouch is made from a combination of materials including cowhide, pigskin, tin-clothed pillow ticking, homespun fabric, and a strap made by Kris Polizzi.

Pouch with Mark Ewing banded horn

This bag/horn set is a collaboration between myself and horner Mark Ewing.  The pouch is made from cowhide and pigskin and has fringed welts and a hemp lined flap.  The strap was made by Kris Polizzi and adjusts with a steel buckle forged by William Bisher of Black Turtle Forge.  The banded Carolina powder horn has a black walnut plug and an applied antler tip.

More shot/ball pouches

These were inspired by some of the odder ball pouches seen in Karl Z Smith's "Gettin' The Lead Out".  The materials used are little different than what the majority are made from throughout the book.  The first is made from hemp with a turned antler spout with a clothespin stopper.  The middle is made from cowhide, and has a spout made from the tip of a horn with a whittled hickory stopper.  The third is made of a homespun material, has a river cane spout and the plug is a piece of maple with a small carved effigy face.

Shot/ball pouches

These are smallish pouches that can hold ball or shot.  The turned antler spouts were made by Orville Mumma and vary from .52" to .75". Three of the bags are secured to the spouts by waxed hemp string, and one by a linen thread drawstring around the spout.  These were inspired by ball pouches seen in Karl Z Smith's "Gettin' The Lead Out".

Kidney shaped pouch #2

This is another version of a kidney shaped pouch. It has a hanging inside pocket, a pocket on the back with an antique bone button, and brass buckle.  No lining or decoration on the flap.
