Hawk Carrier #3

Carrier for a pipe tomahawk. One side has tooled leather and the other a small pocket with an antique bone button.  Strap woven by Kris Polizzi.

Haversack #4

Haversack made from coarse white fabric with a brown fustian lining. The exterior has a crude patch woven repair to the corner and the bag was tin-clothed. The flap is made from bark-tanned deer hide and is lined with a grey-brown striped ticking.  The strap was woven by Kris Polizzi.

Haversack #3

The outside of the haversack is a striped cotton fabric that has been tin clothed, the inside is a heavy hemp fabric.  The flap is made from bark-tanned deer hide and closes with a horn button.  Kris Polizzi wove the cotton strap.

Horn straps

This is a pair of straps woven by Kris Polizzi with leather trim and iron rings added by me.  These could be used to carry a powder horn but are also suitable as a strap for a pouch and possibly even as a sling for a gun.

Fold-over shot pouch

This is a shot pouch constructed from a single piece of cowhide folded over with pigskin trim and a homespun pattern lining.  The flap is decorated with a folk art moon styled as a Hessian or gentleman.  The horn was made by Ron Hess and has a turned sassafras base and turned horn spout.  The strap was woven by Kris Polizzi and has a steel buckle for adjustment.

Hair-on Calfhide Bag #2

The front panel and flap of this pouch are made from hair-on calf hide.  The back panel, gusset, strap tongue and buckle parts are cowhide.  The flap is bound and lined with pigskin.  The strap was made by Kris Polizzi (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kris-Polizzi-Custom-Weaving/206619746042859) and then aged slightly.  The steel buckle was made by blacksmith William Bisher of Black Turtle Forge (http://www.blackturtleforge.com/). 

I was extremely honored when this shot pouch was awarded the Madison Grant Award at the 2014 Dixon's Gunmaker's Fair.  Like all my work this pouch was inspired by different elements of original pouches and from contemporary work by artists I admire greatly.  I owe both groups a debt of gratitude for this award as well as those who bring the work out for us to see.

 

 

Pigskin & ticking pouch with original horn

The flap and back of this pouch are made from pigskin.  The front is made from pillow ticking that has been tin-clothed.  The strap was made by Kris Polizzi.  The original horn has a rosette carved into the base plug.  An antique table knife has been re-purposed as a patch knife and there is a 45 grain cane measure.  The flap is decorated with the image of a moon and owl.
